Simulation lab on selected obstetric procedures – FOGSI – KFOG
Date: Wednesday 17 October
Room: 204A Markku Seppala
Time: 14:30 – 17:30
Cervical cerclage: We shall demonstrate the technique of Shirodkar cervical cerclage, emergency (rescue) cerclage and transvaginal intraperitoneal (isthmial) cerclage.
Induction of labour: We promote mechanical ripening of the cervix prior to use of prostaglandins for induction of labour. Details of our induction protocol and the outcome will be presented. Video demonstration of the Foleys catheter insertion and extra amniotic saline instillation will be shown.
Forceps delivery: We have developed an obstetric forcep which is different from the conventional forcep. The main differences are – the reduced biparietal distance of the blades and diminished pelvic curve. Application of the forceps will be demonstrated using models of mounted pelvis and fetal skull. Delegates will be able to practice the application of the forceps in the pelvic model.
Placenta accrete: We have developed a vascular clamp that can be used to occlude the aorta or the common iliac arteries while doing surgery for placenta previa accreta. This reduces the blood loss and makes surgical dissection of the bladder from the percreta placenta easier. Use of the clamp will be demonstrated with videos. Videos of cases of placenta accreta where hysterectomy was done using the clamp will be shown.
